Details

Simbec Research Ltd will soon be running a study to investigate a potential new vaccine called GBSNN/NN2.  GBS-NN/NN2 is being developed for the prevention of life threatening infections in newborn babies due to infection by a bacterium called Group B Streptococcus which is passed to the newborn during pregnancy and labour from the mother.

The study itself will involve 11 outpatient visits to the unit in total. This will comprise a screening visit (to check that you are suitable to participate in the study), 2 visits for dosing (injection in upper arm) and 8 visits to perform a range of assessments to monitor your health and response to the drug.

You will also need to attend Simbec for a follow-up study visit approximately 6 months after your second dose. I have enclosed a sheet with the proposed study dates and times for your information.

If you complete this study, you will receive an inconvenience payment of £2720. Please note that the payment for this study will be split. A payment of £1200 will be given after completion of the Day 85 visit and the remaining payment of £1520 will be given after completion of the final visit on Day 210.

If you are interested and would either like further information about the study or would like to make an appointment to attend for a pre-study screen/medical, please contact “Volunteer Recruitment” on 01685 700870 (office hours: Monday to Friday; 9am to 5pm) or email  enrolmentservices@simbec.com  (quoting SIM 33819) as soon as convenient.

Your screening visit may take place at either Simbec Research (based in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales) or at the Simbec Research Screening Centre (based in Cardiff, South Wales). We will arrange your visit at whichever location is most convenient for you. It doesn’t matter as to which centre you attend; the screening procedures will be exactly the same and will be conducted by Simbec trained staff.

The addresses for these screening locations are as follows:

Simbec Research Ltd, Merthyr Tydfil Industrial Park, Cardiff Road, Merthyr Tydfil, CF48 4DR

Simbec Research Cardiff Screening Centre, 2nd Floor, 16 Museum Place, Cardiff, CF10 3BH

Please note that when you attend for a pre-study screen/medical you will be required to attend 'fasted' (you should not have eaten anything for at least 4 hours). We also advise you not to eat any food containing poppy and sesame seeds (such as bread rolls and hummus) or take part in any strenuous exercise for 3 days before you attend, and not to drink any alcohol for 2 days before you attend as these can affect your results and may prevent you from taking part in the study.
