First step

If you first contact us, or we contact you, you will be asked if you are happy to complete a phone questionnaire. If your first contact is by this website you can complete the questionnaire on-line by clicking ''Apply Now'' at the bottom of any page.

A clinical trial in 8 steps

On satisfactorily completing this questionnaire you will be invited to attend an initial medical assessment. If you completed the questionnaire on-line we will review the information provided and contact you to discuss your suitability. If all is OK we will then arrange with you a suitable date and time to attend for an initial medical assessment. The medical assessment will include measurements of your blood pressure, pulse, an electrocardiogram (ECG) and also measurements of your height and weight. A urine sample will be taken to check for drugs of abuse use. Also, at this time we will ask for your written permission to contact your General Practitioner (GP), so please bring with you the full name and address of your GP. In addition you will need a photographic form of ID such as passport, new form of driving license etc. If you do not have any of these please ring us to discuss other options.

Also, you will need written proof of your NI number such as new NI card, payslip or letter from Inland Revenue.

Once the results of your questionnaire and medical assessment are obtained, a decision will be made on your suitability to participate in any clinical trials we conduct here at Simbec.

Taking part in a clinical trial

Participants who take part in clinical research studies at Simbec receive a generous inconvenience payment which can range from £300 to £7,000.

Whilst on a study, you will have lots of time to relax, catch up on some studying using our free Internet access, or just chill out playing pool or testing your knowledge and skill by playing our board games.

During the actual trial, you will more than likely have blood samples taken at set times throughout your stay. In addition, you may have your blood pressure and heart monitored periodically.

Simbec will provide all your meals during your stay. And, if required, will provide transport to and from Simbec whilst on a study.

Some studies require very specific tests but you will be fully informed of these prior to you agreeing to take part in the study.

Remember, by becoming a member of our panel of healthy participants you will be under no obligation to take part in any clinical trial and if you do take part you are free to withdraw at anytime. Each project includes a generous payment for your time and inconvenience.
